This post is a little too intense, mostly because of the connect I have with Pink Floyd and this song – ‘Another Brick in the Wall’ (and many other’s too, but the list is endless). For everyone else this song is about being a rebel against the Education system, while it means something else to me. For me it is about people in general, and their innate pessimistic feelings that translates to oppressive reactions; as basic as pulling dirt on others for no apparent reason! And on the other side how people start to build walls to protect themselves from such antagonism.
My Dad once told me that anger, cruelty, and holding a grudge against people is the worst possible baggage one can hold in their heart, as it only does bad to oneself. But how does one avoid being a target of all these negativity, ‘coz as we grow up these instances occur more often than not?! Life is tough as is, I’m sure we’ve all done our fair share of moping and brooding, but how is it that we still stay clear of all such negativity?
I for one, build a wall and any such instance that is negative and oppressive, would be ‘Just Another Brick in the Wall’ , that keeps getting higher and stronger, with every jibe that comes my way. I honestly fail to understand jealousy, cruelty, narcissism, anger and hypocrisy and so building a wall against all these, is much more feasible to only protect myself.. it’s but natural! What is the point of all this, when all of such animosity only brings negative to our lives? Why can’t one be free of these pointless emotions, when much can be achieved by showing compassion to one another.
Everyone is fighting their own battle, would it harm us to be a little more compassionate to each other? Why is the ‘ego’ ever-so-towering in all our actions and gestures? Is the need to prove oneself right, more important than seeing others happy in life? What happened to our so called Indian Values and Sanskaar that we do not miss to brag about, given a chance? What happened to the Vedas we learnt growing up? Are we even following them, or is it just that we show off that we are of a religion that holds these vedas in high regard, that preaches much kindness and compassion, while we skip to follow it on a daily basis?
Didn’t they say – ‘
Om, Sarve bhavantu sukhinaḥ
Sarve santu nirāmayāḥ
Sarve bhadrāṇi paśyantu
Mā kashchit duḥkha bhāgbhavet
Oṁ Shāntiḥ, Shāntiḥ, Shāntiḥ
May All be Happy,
May All be Healthy (Free from Illness)
May All See what is Opportune,
May no one Suffer in any way ,
Let there be peace everywhere.
* This simple shloka has such meaning, I end my daily Yoga routine with this and it calms me down, yet gives me so much perspective to go about my day. *
If preachers forsake to follow what they preach, then what is the point of preaching? What is the point of having a false skin, when you know it would shed momentarily and your true colours will show, come what may! It just shows that some of us are only thirsty for momentary happiness, what of our conscience then, what is to happen to the morals we were taught growing up? I know I’m pondering pointlessly, but sometimes such pointless talks give you the much needed direction. I guess I better stop now before y’all get bored. But I’ll leave you with this to ponder –
‘Where is the Love? For I see no dawn without the dark cloud named – Ego. That does not let your self sparkle through. Give up all that holds back your gleam..
You Crazyyyy Diaaamonnndd… !!

Styling Note: This post is a throw-back to my college days, when Denim used to be my second skin, well.. it still is! But back in college one would hardly find me miss wearing it and my go to music would be any cover from Pink Floyd’s albums. Light Denims are in trend this Spring Summer 2016, and so this post reflects my college style. Paired here is the houndstooth printed denim trouser along with a floral print denim shirt. To bring out the contrast more is why I added the White T-shirt with Pink Floyd’s – ‘The Wall’ Album Cover mashed with pop art portraits of the Pink Floyd Band. The Blue sling to accessorize the look while the Prism styled ring for much Floyd Power.
